Anal Fissure Treatment in Ayurveda

An anal fissure is a small tear in the thin moist tissue that lines the anus. An anal fissure may occur when pass hard or large stools during a bowel movement.

In Ayurvedic classics “Parikarthika” resembles with fissure in ano having cutting and burning pain at guda(anus). Anal fissures typically causes pain and bleeding with bowel movements. Also may experience spasms in the ring of muscles at the end of anus(anal sphicture).

SYMPTOMS

  • Pain sometimes severe during bowel movements
  • Pain after bowel movements that can last up to several hours
  • Bright red blood on the stool or toilet paper after a bowel movement
  • A visible crack in the skin around the anus
  • A small lump or skin tag on the skin near the anal fissure

CAUSES

  • Passing large or hard stools
  • Constipation and straining during bowel movement
  • Chronic diarrhea
  • Child birth
  • Anal cancer
  • HIV
  • Crohns disease – an inflammatory bowel disease
  • Syphilis

COMPLICATION

  • Failure to heal
  • Recurrence
  • A tear extends to surrounding muscles

PREVENTION

  • Intake highly fibre content diet
  • Take proper treatment for constipation
  • Avoid straining during bowel movement
  • Drinking more fluid to stay hydrated and improve digestion
